My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Harm is the second installment in The Outsider Chronicles and it is just as good as the first, maybe even better. The struggles that Niko finds herself overcoming is believable and astounding at the same time.
Since the trio of Ben, Niko and Jared only have enough money for two of them to enter the city, Ben and Jared go ahead while Niko enters the slums to survive. After a group of thugs pick a fight with Niko, Songhay swoops in to save her. She joins Songhay and his sister Roosevelt and they survive together.
During this time, Raet introduces us to a whole new set of characters that Niko integrates with and quite frankly, I enjoy Songhay and Roosevelt better than Ben and his group. These people are good people surviving on the outside and not taking anything for granted.
Niko continues to learn about her past and about her parents, and discovers things that I hadn’t seen coming and that surely Niko didn’t. Niko is challenged not only on a survival level but also on an emotional level.
I really enjoyed this book because we were able to see Niko’s personality soften a bit and see a more compassionate side to her. The cold and calculating Niko is still there and will always need to be there in order for her to survive.
Harm is filled with action packed adventure and is fast paced. This book will keep you engrossed from start to finish. The characters are well developed and easily enjoyable. The descriptions from the author are placed well and are detailed enough to paint a picture in my head.
Looking forward to reading the next installment.
