Review of ‘Red Dahlia’ by Ross Simon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has an amazing concept and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline! The book started off a bit slow but it definitely made up for it in the end! I did get slightly hung up with a few of the abbreviations and terms (more my problem than the author’s).

I enjoyed following Clifford as he retired from the Royal Navy, left his home country of Britain and made his way to a new country where he meets up with a monk who helps him choose a bride. Viry, his new bride comes from a very interesting background and this ends up being a volatile pairing, more than any would know.

Clifford enjoys his new life and his new marriage and it isn’t long before his wife is glowing with the beginning of pregnancy. At this time, the monk warns that his wife is carrying the deva Kali-Ma, the consumer of flesh. No one believes the monk, he is just a crazy old fool and everyone goes about their lives.

It isn’t until after the baby is born that they will know for sure…

Well-written and creatively descriptive. The horror captured in this story is detailed to create a wickedly disturbing visual in your mind. The violence depicted in such a gruesome fashion was both disturbing and fascinating.

Characters were believable and were well defined. The background was fashioned in a believable and interesting manner. I loved this book and the concept of Kali-Ma is intriguing and terrifying! Well done!
